Mungret Medical Centre (MMC) is a practice established by Dr Brian McEllistrem and Dr Muireann Clifford in the village of Mungret in the suburbs of Limerick city.
From the outset, Mungret Medical Centre (MMC) has been set up with the highest standards in mind in order to deliver quality healthcare in the community.
MMC is a General Practitioner (GP) practice of the community, being wholly operated by Dr Brian McEllistrem and Dr Muireann Clifford. Dr McEllistrem himself being a Limerick native.
Our services include GP services, Chronic Disease Management (CDM) services, Tropical Medical Bureau (TMB) Travel Vaccines and Occupational Health services.
New patients, Medical Card, Under 8, Over 70 and Private Patients welcome.
In addition to Dr McEllistrem and Dr Clifford, a wide range of medical, nursing and administrative staff all contribute to the care delivered at MMC.
Dr McEllistrem is a General Practitioner, Medical Educator and Occupational Health Physician. He completed his medical training in University College Dublin graduating in 2010 and he completed his Specialist General Practice training with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) in 2017. He has worked in a variety of both hospital based and GP roles since qualification, in Ireland and abroad, before opening Mungret Medical Centre with Dr Clifford.

Other clinical interests include preventative/chronic health management, men’s health, joint injections for musculoskeletal issues, and cryotherapy for skin lesion.
Outside of Mungret Medical Centre, Dr McEllistrem is the Scheme Director of the ICGP Specialist Training Scheme Mid-West based in the University of Limerick. This 4-year training scheme holistically trains doctors preparing them for careers as independently practicing GPs. He has completed a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Edinburgh and is currently undertaking a part time PhD in Medical Education also with the University of Edinburgh. He has published articles in both medical and medical education journals. He is a fellow of Advance HE (Higher Education).
Dr Clifford is a General Practitioner and Medical Educator. She completed her medical training in University College Dublin in 2011 and her Specialist General Practice training in 2018 through the RCSI/Dublin North East Scheme of the Irish College of General Practitioners. During this time, she rotated through Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry and Palliative care posts both in Ireland and internationally. She is a founding partner of Mungret Medical Centre.

Other clinical interests include, contraception, fertility and preconceptual planning, menopause, chronic disease management, lifestyle modification.
Dr Clifford is passionate about delivering evidence-based medicine and has completed a Masters in Medical Education through the University of Edinburgh. She is currently a tutor in UL School of Medicine training medical students for a career as doctors, as part of their 4 year post graduate course. She has published in medical education journals.
